Trial of Hearts

· Short Stories by Melanie Black

Making a murmur count as a question

Disguising clarity into false discretion

Finishing last remarks at the beginning of the trial

A trial of time punishing its lovers for all their denial

Their love was eager to shine through seclusion

And pronounce its wholeness of devotion and exclusion

Many assumed it was simply lust

But within each of their hearts, the other they trust

Found guilty on all charges, their punishment is time away

Separated for eternity, apart from each other, they are to stay
