Finally, in the Miles Yet to Come

· Short Stories by Melanie Black

We were so tragic with our love

Never losing hope on a never-ending battle

Bursting into my head, you abduct my heart

You always played so rough

They all whispered similar warnings about you

Wanting to cry and leading me to deny

I ran to you with everything

My deepest secrets lie within you

But that day, I ran away and waited for my heart to die

Finally, I have learned to breathe without you

Finally, I feel for someone else

Finally, I can live my life free of your obstacle course

Finally, I can believe in love again

Finally, my sorrow has diminished along with my remorse

Since that day, my view has changed

I climbed into a fresh perspective

One I can drive around for the miles yet to come
