Good as Dead

· Short Stories by Melanie Black

Shrinking back into shrouded walls

She is lost between bricks people have buried

She had fallen in-between the cracks

She got sucked under by the day’s hostility

Disturbing is the scene of the girl in her cell- drowning in the stillness of the cement

Crying for her sanity to return

Her claims deemed laughable by those who hear her tortured cries

She screams as the heaviness of her lungs blocks her soul from glowing

Slowly it chokes her into silence

Never to be heard from again

To the world outside those bars, she is as good as dead
