Jump, Just Like the Birds

· Short Stories by Melanie Black

To claim you love me is outrageous

For I know true love’s stages

I am forever bewildered by your lies

Wishing I could just cut the ties

Embedded myself in your trust

Only to find it was simply lust

I run from you in my dreams

In your ears rings my screams

Drowning in my own misfortune

Your heart is one fucked-up, cold contortion

Lying little snake you are

My aching heart you did so mar

Shocked by your harsh fighting words

Now I jump just like the birds

And if I die before I wake

Don’t cry for me - for my own sake
