Beating Heart

A Melanie Black Short Story

· Short Stories by Melanie Black

Chase me, chase me, where are you going to take thee?

Down to the water so you can see it flow

And watch them as they try to grow

Chase me, chase me, where are you going to take thee?

Past the old lighthouse,

We'll find the old dead mouse

Chase me, chase me, where are you going to take thee?

Back to the river to feed

We'll watch them as they bleed

Chase me, chase me, where are you going to take thee?

Down into the water deep

We catch them before they sleep

Chase me, chase me, where are you going to take thee?

To carry their bodies tight

Now before the end of light

Chase me, chase me, where are you going to take thee?

Back in the forest dark

You'll want to make your mark

Chase me, chase me, where are you going to take thee?

To kiss them all goodbye

And bury them to die

Chase me, chase me, where are you going to take thee?

Somewhere you'll never stray

In a hole with them, you'll stay
